When typing emails via AOL the screen goes blank quickly

When I ttyping an email via AOL the screen goes blank and I lose the email. Is there a way to refresh AOL assuming that would do the trick. I have also found that my main screen appears when I access applications. Is there a way to refresh the system as well. I have tried to turn the device off and then on butbthisvhas not done the trick.
